Volunteers can't do the job without skilled supervisors. Camp Victor currently has two Construction Supervisors to lead work crews and ensure quality rebuilds. But we need more.
Help build more homes by joining the Camp Victor Builders Club! We're looking for 100 friends to pledge just $35 each month for one year to help hire another Construction Supervisor. Just send an email to Camp Manager Suzie Harvey at soozi2@cableone.net. For a monthly pledge of any amount, we'll send you a Builders Club Membership Certificate and an email reminder each month. All donations receive a receipt for tax purposes.
Christus Victor Lutheran Church, located in Ocean Springs, Mississippi, became a hurricane disaster response center for communities along the Gulf Coast from Pascagoula to Ocean Springs to Biloxi within days of Hurricane Katrina. The storm destroyed about 64,000 homes in Mississippi and damaged another 78,000.
During the months that followed Hurricanes Katrina and Rita, the church's walls were stretched trying to accommodate regular services and activities, providing space for a Red Cross Shelter, massive food distribution, construction and case management, plus housing and feeding thousands of volunteers.
In June 2006, Christus Victor moved its disaster response center operations to Camp Victor, a new facility inside an abandoned sewing machine factory in downtown Ocean Springs. In September 2007, Camp Victor became Camp Victor Ministries to better reflect their expanded mission. The volunteer support program is now operates under the auspices of Lutheran Episcopal Services in Mississippi.
It's been over two years since Hurricane Katrina, and the work goes on. Some experts estimate that it will take another eight to ten years to rebuild the Gulf Coast. Thank you for your continued support of our important ministry. God bless you and yours.
