Areas of Ministry

"Guided by Christ's love and grace, Lutheran Episcopal Services in Mississippi seeks to bring dignity, healing, justice, hope and encouragement to all people."

Our mission statement describes the philosophy behind the services we provide. These services include:

1) Lutheran Episcopal Disaster Response—We are currently working in areas that were devastated by Hurricane Katrina. Food, clothing, affordable housing, and transportation are some of our most pressing immediate concerns. Rebuilding Mississippi will be part of our
continuing mission in the years to come. We will develop new ministries as needs arise in our communities.

Some of our projects and services
include:

    • Camp Noah: a week-long program for children who have experienced disaster, such as floods,
       hurricanes,
tornadoes, etc.
    • Recovery Centers (Camp Coast Care, Mission On the Bay, Camp Victor, Camp Biloxi, Camp Restore)
    • Case management teams

    • Warehousing and transportation

    • Affordable housing and coord
ination
        of volunteers

2) ENRICH—"Enhancing Needed Resources, Increasing Children's Horizons" presents summer
opportunities for educational continuity and off-site cultural experiences for at-risk students.

3) Restorative Justice Programs:

  • Storybook Prison Ministry, located at Central Mississippi Correctional Facility and also at  the Mississippi State Penitentiary at Parchman, gives inmate mothers and fathers the       opportunity to record storybooks and personal messages on audio tape for their children.   We hope to expand to other correctional facilities in the future.
  • Camp Caritas offers a week of activities and reflection for children of incarcerated parents. This camp seeks to ensure that these children forge their own path, guided by positive leaders and positive decisions.
