Disaster Preparedness and Response
LESM is the Mississippi affiliate of national disaster response organizations, Episcopal Relief and Development (ERD) and Lutheran Disaster Response (LDR). Through these affiliations, we have developed a comprehensive Disaster Preparedness and Response Program which serves as these agencies’ first point of contact in the state of Mississippi.
Our Disaster Preparedness and Response Program has won national awards for its Comprehensive Emergency Management Plan (CEMP). The CEMP provides the framework through which key staff, congregations and volunteers can respond effectively and efficiently to disasters.
This program:
- Provides training, information and other capacity building activities for local leaders and congregations statewide.
- Develops collaborative relationships with federal, state and local agencies and members of Mississippi Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster.
- Works to identify, mobilize and coordinate volunteers before, during and after an incident occurs.
- Develops and manages systems to effectively and efficiently deploy volunteers, equipment and supplies.
