Recovery Volunteer

LESM manages two recovery camps - Camp Victor, Ocean Springs and LESM on the Bay, Bay St. Louis.

These camps are at the center of our disaster recovery work on the Mississippi Gulf Coast. They offer comprehensive and cost effective volunteer, case and construction management recovery services.

The most visible aspect of the recovery work is construction management, building, rebuilding and repairing homes for families. This work is fueled by volunteers whose labor and other services make our recovery work possible. The services of our volunteers, along with the coordination of operations among the camps, help us to maximize and leverage resources.

At the camps, volunteer services are supported by our viable and effective recruitment and retention program. We have the ability to comfortably house, feed and manage 500 volunteers simultaneously.  Volunteers pay a minimal rate for room and board.  This income helps to support long term volunteer housing and management.

Most housing repair and reconstruction has focused on helping survivors get back into their homes.  Repair of rental property has not been a priority.  LESM’s Realtor Relief Fund offers the only assistance currently available to repair single or double unit rental property.  See the link to Special Initiatives - Realtor Relief Fund, for more information.
